[NEWS] TW-Movie “Our Times” featuring Joe Chen and Jerry Yan premieres tomorrow

It seems like the Chinese-speaking entertainment industry isn’t going to let go of creating films/dramas with school, youth, or nostalgic themes. I wouldn’t blame them because such projects with these themes have actually proven to be very successful in the box office. (READ: “So Young” in China, “You Are the Apple of my Eye” in Taiwan, and many more). Another similarly themed movie is set to create box office success which is “Our Times” as it premieres in Taiwan nationwide tomorrow.

The story is based on the youth/high school experiences of critically-acclaimed producer-director Chen Yu Shan who is famous for being the one behind successful dramas like “Autumn’s Concerto”, “Material Queen”, “Prince of Lan Ling”, and many more. With a bunch of new actors/actresses headlining the movie, I could imagine that this is what the film production team had in mind:  If the story and the poster do not appeal to you that much then we’ll probably bring out the big guns and say that the special guests in this film are worth watching for. And when they say big guns, they mean it by putting 3 big stars together for a cameo: One of Hong Kong’s Heavenly Kings Andy Lau, Taiwanese drama rating queen Joe Chen, and F4’s leader Jerry Yan.

Joe Chen plays the grown-up version of the female lead who is a huge fan of Andy Lau. The Heavenly King’s cameo was filmed in 3 hours as he had a tight schedule so it was definitely nice of him to lend his time to the film. In an interview, Joe Chen was definitely excited to be working with Andy who’s also her idol so yay for reel and real dreams coming true!

Before Jerry flew to Mainland China to film “My Best Ex-Boyfriend” (which is out this August 15!), he actually stayed in Taipei to film this movie with Joe and as his fangirl, I was squealing with excitement. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one because so many people have been waiting for this pairing as they have been headlining hit Taiwanese dramas one after another but never together. Jerry was supposed to be Joe’s co-star in the 2009 TW drama “Easy Fortune Happy Life” but Jerry rejected the offer so this is really a treat for all the fans who have been waiting for this pairing to happen! See more of their photos below:

Cute behind-the-scenes screencaps of these two!

11872681_10207158154221234_2077596920_nThere were earlier reports that Jerry and Joe have been snobbing each other during the whole time that they were filming so seeing these screencaps can actually prove those reports wrong. Jerry was even part of a compilation of video messages made for Joe’s birthday just a few months ago when he was still filming his drama.

This pretty lady just came back from China where she received her best actress award from the Huading Awards 2015. I love it when stars find time support various projects despite their busy schedule.

Speaking of supporting, Jerry Yan didn’t ask to be paid for his appearance since it was his way of supporting his good friend who is the director of the film. The director was actually scared that she’d get rejected by Jerry (aka serial project “rejector” lol) but to her surprise, Jerry gave her a yes in less than 24 hours! She did not even give him the script or anything but Jerry just said that he loves supporting local films so he just gave his yes and asked when the movie is going to start filming. The director was also having problems in the shooting locations that she already told him that it’s okay for him to reject her but Jerry still kept his approval and he was willing to compromise. He stayed in Japan for work and his original plan was to fly to Shanghai for his Cdrama but because the film had to be shot in Taiwan, he flew to Taiwan from Japan before going to Shanghai. Such a sweetheart!

Don't worry, Director! I would cry too if I were you!

Jerry actually told the director that he won’t be coming (this is why he has no red carpet photos like Joe has) but it was actually a prank that he was trying to pull. He loves surprising people so he loves telling people that he won’t be coming but he actually would (quick fact: this is what he did during his F4 band mate Van Ness Wu’s wedding in Singapore last year!). This is why the director shed some tears when she saw him suddenly appearing during the premiere in the photo above (aww!).

Anyway, I’m talking about Jerry too much, aren’t I? haha! So here are more photos from today’s red carpet premiere (advanced screening) as I end this post:

I really hope that this movie with English subtitles will come out soon so more people will be able to watch it. Many positive reviews have already been received when it had its advanced screening so that’s definitely a good sign. I’d love to know your thoughts on this film, casting, etc through the comments section below 😀

Jerry’s airtime here as a guest role is 20 minutes so maybe anything could’ve happened within those minutes 😀 it’s still showing in Taiwan so we should wait for a good copy to come out soon 😉
